Creating the Space I Wish I Had as a Kid
Growing up, I was drawn to everything creative—video games, cartoons, anime, comics. I spent hours sketching my favorite characters, dreaming up stories, and designing creatures on paper. At the time, I didn’t have many friends who shared those same interests, but I loved helping them draw anyway. When someone said, “I can’t draw to save my life,” I’d tell them, “Anyone can draw—it just takes time and practice.” Then I’d walk them through a step-by-step lesson, and every time, I’d hear something like, “I can’t believe I actually drew that!” Those moments meant a lot to me.
In grade 8, one of my teachers asked me to lead a “how to draw” lesson for the class. I was shy, but I said yes. Looking back, I realize how much that experience shaped me. It wasn’t just about drawing—it was about sharing something I cared about, and having someone believe I could teach it. That made me become confident.
Eventually, I became a teacher. I stepped away from art for a while, unsure how to grow my skills or where to turn next. It wasn’t until my late 20s that I returned to it—this time through digital art.
That’s why I created Pen & Tablet: to build the kind of space I always wished I had. A place where kids can explore their creativity, learn at their own pace, and feel proud of what they make—whether it’s their first sketch or their next big idea.
